Dominant Trait

http://knowgenetics.org/dominant-inheritance/

Main Ideas:

• The dominant trait is the trait that will always show when put beside a recessive trait
• The dominant trait is only present in Mendel's theory of genetics

Reflection:

- I learned that the Dominant trait will only show in Mendel's study of genetics, and that it was always show if put with a recessive.

Passive Membrane Transport - Makayla Puckhaber

Passive Membrane Transport
A process that does not require energy to move molecules from High to Low concentration.

Three Main Types of Passive Transport
Simple Diffusion: Movement of small molecules.
Osmosis: Movement of water molecules.
Facilitated diffusion: Movement of large or charged molecules through membrane proteins.

Reflection
I learned that Passive Membrane Transport is from to high to low concentration, which does not require energy. There are 3 main types of Passive Transport(Simple Diffusion, Osmosis, and Facilitated Diffusion). I enjoyed this topic and learning about the different types of transport.

Genetic Variation: Crossing Over

  • When mom and dads chromosomes swap information when lined up next to each other.
  • This is a source of genetic variation.
  • Part of the process of Meiosis.

I did not know about crossing over when I started learning about it but I did know about the process of Meiosis and how it is used to create more cells.  This objective was a little confusing to me because of all of the different sources of genetic variations but after a little it of review, I think it will start to make more sense.

Lab Safety - Grace Moore

For lab safety, the number one thing to do is to be smart. When handling chemicals you should use common sense and if you are not for sure about something, it is better to ask rather then get hurt during a lab!
Key points
1.) Keep long hair pulled back
2.) wear glasses when needed
3.) Don't wear open-toed shoes on the day of lab
4.) Dress appropriately for lab
5.) Don't touch dangerous chemicals
6.) Make sure the work station is clean
Something cool to learn from this is if you are not careful with your chemicals during labs and if you don't have a clean work station you can have an accidental reaction happen!
